芳芳，出生于台湾花莲，今年51岁。尽管已经年过半百，但岁月似乎对她宽容有加，在她的脸上我们看不出任何中年人的沧桑感以及衰老感。时间，在她身上静止了。

大学期间，芳芳接触到了印度哲学和佛教哲学，哲学对她影响至深，甚至可以说持续到了今天。
在学习哲学的那段时间里，她了解到了素食，之后又接触到动物保护相关的议题，后升起怜惜动物的恻隐之心，“这种不忍心让我吃素没有任何挣扎。”
27岁，她决定离开台湾，孤身一人前往纽约。
“台湾是一个很小的岛屿，我在那快要闷死了，不管生活还是家庭，我在那里是一个受困的状态，找不到人生方向，对未来迷惘。”
而纽约这座充满着国际化的大都市，给她带来了不少冲击：无论是在文化上还是在饮食上。
